Wayne Pacelle is an American activist who was the president and chief executive officer (CEO) of the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS).

Growing up in New Haven, as a child, Pacelle enjoyed reading natural history and developed an early concern about animal maltreatment. Pacelle took office on June 1, 2004, having served nearly 10 years as the group ‘s chief lobbyist and spokeswoman. While the HSUS board overwhelmingly voted to keep Pacelle on as CEO, on February 2, 2018, he agreed to resign, following accusations of sexual harassment against him.
