Eric Cantor is an American politician who is currently the U.S. representative for Virginia. He was born on June 6, 1963 at Richmond, Virginia. His height is 1.88 m. His mother name is Mary Lee and his father name is Eddie cantor. Mary was a school teacher where as his father Eddie owned a real estate business. They had three children and Eric was the second. His family was religious and followed conservative Judaism religion. In 1980 presidential campaign his father, Eddie was appointed as the state treasurer for Ronald Regales.
Eric attended Collegiate school, which was a private school located in Richmond. He graduated in 1981. He went to George Washington University (GW) in 1981. During his freshman year he had an opportunity to do internship for house republican Tom Bliley of Virginia. He completed Bachelor of Arts in 1988 from GW in 1988 he got a juries doctor degree from Williams & Mary law school and Master of Science in real estate development from Columbia University in 1989. He worked in his father’s real estate firm for 10 years.
In 2000 cantor won the election for U.S House of Representatives beating his opponent senator Martin. At that time he and Benjamin A. Gilman from New York were the only two Jewish republican appointed in the house if representative. Later in 2002 Gilman was retired so; cantor is the only Jewish republican left. He has been House Minority Whip from January 3, 2009 to January 3, 2011, House Chief Deputy Whip form January 3, 2003 to January 3, 2009.
In 2008 it was rumored that cantor was to be chosen by John McCain’s as his running mate for vice-president nominee but later McCain declined the rumor saying it was false.
After the passing of the health care reform bill cantor was shot bullet through his campaign office’s window in March 2010, luckily he was not hurt and he also received several life threatening email.
Cantor and his wife, Diana Marcy Fine married in 1989. They both had first met in a blind date. Diana is an attorney and accountant by profession. She was the founder of the Virginia College saving plan and executive director for 13 years (1996-2008). She is currently working as a managing director in Emigrant bank, New York private bank branch. She supports gay marriage where as her husband does not. They both have three children together Evan, Jenna and Michael. His net worth is $2.97 Million.
On 2010, Cantor published a book Young Guns: A New Generation of Conservative Leaders which was a New York Times bestselling book.
