Rev Richard Coles lost his partner, David Oldham, whom he wed in 2010, to alcoholism in December 2019. The couple was married for a decade when his partner died at the end of 2019. The couple has a rich system of mutual mockery like other couples.

Rev used to tease David for lying in ignominy. As reported on News, Richard did nothing except let grief happen even three months after his partner died.
Coles, the writer, wrote a book about their time together and tried to help others. When David was in the Intensive care unit, he spilled David’s stomach over his trousers.
Coles went to Tesco after David’s death and emerged with three kinds of Parmesan. He watched the garden that David had planted.
