Abbott’s career started as a dancer and actor in the Oregon Shakespeare Festival in Ashland, Oregon, where he spent three seasons from 1975 to 1978, appearing in productions of A Winter’s Tale, All’s Well That Ends Well, Henry VI Part 2, The Tempest, and The Tragedy of King Richard III.
In 1980, Abbott moved from Portland to Hollywood (“The actors did not know anyone during the strike,” he recalled). Soon thereafter, he played the villain in “Tag: The Assassination Game.”
He met his future (first) wife Linda Hamilton at the scene. In 1985, he played the Ph.D. Dan Kane played a role in Stuart Gordon’s sci-fi horror film “Re-Animator” (1985).
He played a role in “Bride of Re-Animator” (1990). Play this role in the sequel. Later, he starred in the historical drama “Summer Heat” (1987) with Laurie Singer and Katie Bates.
He also starred in Andrew Fleming’s 1988 horror movie “Bad Dreams” and the comedy “Casual Sex?” “(Accidental Sex?). (1989) Abbott and Bill Maher starred in the futuristic TV movie “Out of Time” (1988).
In 1991, he appeared with Harry Pierpont in the TV movie Dillinger, alongside Sherilyn Fenn and Patricia Arquette. From 1992 to 1993, he often appeared in the TV series “Dark Justice” in judge Nicholas Marshall (Nicholas Marshall).
